Welcome to Pragati - 2015
A Bi-annual conference that brings all its partner projects to one platform with a mission to “Connect, Share and Leverage”
Started in 2009 in Bangalore and continued in 2011 and 2013, Pragati has played an important role in developing a better understanding between Vibha and its partners. It has also provided an environment among all the projects to learn from each other.
VIBHA – PRAGATI 2015
SHARE – INSPIRE - CHANGE!
For the past several years, increasingly, VIBHA has focused on the issue of effective monitoring through appropriate impact indicators for its grass-roots projects. The discussions between the projects and Vibha have been focused on measuring impact. The lack therefore of appropriate indicators has hindered a more comprehensive perspective on the impact of Vibha’s investment and partners’ interventions.
With the advent of the CSR Act, and the opportunities this presents to both the corporate world and to NGOs, “Impact Assessment as a way of life” is the call of the day. The workshops Vibha organized for its grass-roots partners last year, served to whet the appetite to know more and to understand more clearly what “impact assessment” means. It is imperative that corporates for whom CSR activities is a given must be clear on the same too. Assessing the impact of your investment, then, becomes key.
It seems evident from discussions and experiments globally that no entity has yet been able to come up with a standardized view, standardized methodology, or tools for impact assessment in a manner that will capture financials of course, but also social change. Certain under-pinning values remain the same: Accountability, Transparency and Trust. The basic question remains: What is your social return on your investment? How can you identify how effectively an organization uses its capital and other resources to create value for the community? How can we “improve program management through better planning and evaluation….increase the corporation’s understanding of its impact; and allow better communication regarding the value of the corporation’s work (both internally and to external stakeholders).”
Currently, Vibha works with 28 partner organizations across 10 States in India, in its endeavor to attain scalable, replicable and self-sustainable solutions that positively impact the lives of underprivileged children. The main thrust of Vibha’s work has been in the field of education – how can Vibha help to ensure that children have access to, and benefit from, quality education in their schools or other educational alternatives. In the 24 years of Vibha’s existence, Vibha has enabled 255 grass-roots organizations towards this one objective.
Every alternate year, since 2009, Vibha has organized a national level conference for all its partners with the aim of providing a learning platform – a place where they can share, connect and leverage from each others’ rich experiences. We provide a wider thematic focus to generate a healthy debate and discussion, share information about developments and create a space for partners as well as experts to share their views and perspectives. Each Pragati conference typically builds up to a series of capacity building workshops for partners in the following year, focusing on a theme or subject that is relevant to their work. We have had three series’ so far: IT for development, Finance management & FCRA and recently, on Impact Assessment, Indicators and Monitoring.
At Pragati 2013, we organized a teaser session on Impact Assessment, with the objective of getting partners to understand why assessment is important, what does it mean and how do we go about it? In 2014, we organized 4 regional level workshops for all our partners to begin a process of systematizing monitoring, evaluation and assessment of programs.
It is with this view to achieving further clarity that this year at Pragati 2015, Vibha has planned a session on bringing in the different perspectives: the Corporates, the NGOs and academics to come together to share their challenges and their learnings.
On our Agenda this Pragati, is an endeavor to create a vibrant learning platform for partners and corporates and indeed others alike.
We will bring to you:
- A panel of eminent persons from: Corporate, Foundations, Government and NGOs
- Experts and inspiring speakers to enrich our knowledge and learning, and
- An opportunity for our partners to share their unique models/ approaches – the successes and challenges of working in different environments
We expect that by the end of the three day conference, we will have gained new learning, been inspired, and have renewed our commitment to bringing about positive and sustainable change in the lives of our underprivileged children.
